What our clients say about Haven Solicitors
"Through a purely chance meeting two years ago I was introduced to Ron and Mark. My subsequent conversation with them and their professional help, advice and hard work that followed has actually changed my life forever.
They have successfully fought an Injury on Duty Claim for me with Greater Manchester Police and a few weeks ago I was informed that they had won my claim for me. This award is for life, and it has given me a level of financial security that I never dreamed I would ever have and for this I will be eternally grateful.
Quite apart from the financial benefits, as important to me personally has been a formal acknowledgement that the psychological damage I have to live with for the rest of my life lies firmly at the feet of GMP.
I think a critical part of Ron and Marks help has been that after passing over all the necessary information I was able to leave the day to day fight in their capable hands. This meant that I didn’t have to engage in the emotional roller coaster that followed in dealing with GMP, which to be honest I would not have been strong enough to endure.
For anyone who finds themself in my situation, I would highly recommend you engage Haven Solicitors to fight your case, as I feel they are true experts in their field."

"I have had the pleasure of working with Ron Thompson on a series of complex Judicial Reviews in the High Court and the Court of Appeal in the last 3 years, all of which were successfully concluded in favour of Ron’s clients. Ron is a superb solicitor who is focused on the interests of his clients and is always prepared to go the extra mile to achieve the best results. He has excellent technical skills but also has a sound understanding of tactics and strategy in a complex case. He is great to work with and I would strongly recommend him to any potential client."

"I met Ron for the first time about 4 years ago when I instructed him in relation to a complex area of law. Ron was very approachable and personable, easy to talk to and he quickly grasped the issues and an excellent understanding of the complexities of the relevant law; nothing was too much trouble. Ron’s attention to detail was excellent and his advice was given in clear, unambiguous and easily understood terms. Ron brought my case, and others of a similar nature, to a successful conclusion. I have recommended, and would recommend Ron to anyone."
Mr Geoff Garbutt
I loyally served in the West Yorkshire police as a fully operational officer from January, 1963, until I was invalided out of the force, having sustained criminal injuries whilst on duty, retiring sadly in September, 1984. I received an injury pension which I believed was for life. Unfortunately this was not to be, as in 2004, the force stopped paying my injury pension.
I, along with many other injured officers was devastated and had to totally change the way we lived regarding the huge reduction in our finances. We were forced to accept this decision with great regret even though I fought it through an appeal which I lost. I followed all information regarding, in my opinion, an injustice and became aware after some eight years, that all those connected to West Yorkshire police, who had made that decision, had been adjudged to have been acting unlawfully by the European court and other high courts. Whilst researching and following certain cases one name stood out from the rest, a gentleman, who was a mainstay in the fight for justice for any former injured officer who had been badly treated by the West Yorkshire police.
I contacted this man, Ron Thompson, a solicitor, whose advice lifted my hopes that it may be possible to have my injury pension reinstated. This kind gentleman gave me all the necessary information regarding how the law stood in relation to the courts decisions and showed me that there was light at the end of the very dark tunnel that my family and I had endured for the previous eight years. Although I had never met Ron Thompson I found him to be very professional, knowledgeable and someone who I could totally put my trust in. My judgement proved to be well founded as a few months later, due to his great efforts, professionalism and knowledge; he was successful in securing the reinstatement of my injury pension, allowing my family and myself greater opportunities more so than during the previous eight years. When he informed me of the decision, my family, friends and of course myself, were highly elated.
Ron Thompson was a godsend and we cannot thank him enough. I have recommended him to West Yorkshire police federation and ask that they inform all injured pensioners to contact him in order to achieve a happy conclusion to the terrible way in which they were treated by the West Yorkshire police.
John Raymond Redhead, Former Police Sergent 2230, West Yorkshire Police.
Words cannot express enough my thanks and gratitude to Ron for having dealt with my case, against West Yorkshire Police, which I know has not been an easy one. His specialist knowledge, expertise and tenacity, in dealing with ‘erroneously decided’ alterations to Police IOD pensions, are what have won the day for us. Ron has put right an error that happened with my IOD pension 34 years ago and which had not been noticed by any of the Authorities who were supposed to be dealing with it, at the time, and who have fought against admitting that error every step of the way!
Ron’s patience and kindness with me have been wonderful. I know I am not an easy person to deal with when it comes to legal complexities but he explained everything to me in a way I could understand, and he answered any questions I had straight away. Ron has been like a true friend all along the way.
I am so glad that Ron is now working together with IODPA! Now any and all IOD pensioners who have been wronged can get their cases put right!

I am extremely grateful to Ron and his team for their help.
Haven solicitors were assigned to my IOD case by my local Police Federation team and I am so glad that they were.
Ron has been friendly and helpful from the outset, offering support and advice with my situation.
Even when the initial PMAB appeal went against me in 2016, Ron reassured me that it was a temporary setback and that there still was a case to pursue.
Haven then worked with Mr David Lock QC to achieve a very successful outcome for me.
I have been very fortunate to have such a formidable partnership of Haven solicitors and Mr Lock pursuing my case and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to any emergency service colleagues who find themselves in a similar situation as mine.
